Rat Control

Ecopest will solve your rat problem in the most eco-friendly, efficient, and cost-effective way possible. Rather than just put poison down, as many pest control companies do, we will:
    Do a thorough survey.
Find out where the rats are coming from.
Establish how and where they are getting in.
Eradicate the rats responsibly by firstly using an intelligent, strategic trapping program.
Proof the area to prevent them coming back. One way flaps can be placed in sewer pipes, and any entry points can be blocked with strong metal mesh, steel, or cement to prevent rats returning.
Removal of harbourage, such as long grass, or other undergrowth or items used for shelter when moving from place to place.
We pride ourselves in completing the job without damaging non-target animals and protecting wildlife and the environment.

Why We Need To Control Rats

Pathogens and disease: Rats spread diseases like Leptospirosis (Weil’s disease), salmonella, and Listeria.
Stress: Even just the sight of a rat can cause people to experience a lot of stress, and knowing they are living in or around your property can be very unnerving.
Financial implications: Rats can cause extensive damage to property and possessions through their continual need to gnaw.
Reputation: Rats spotted at business premises can lead to a loss in trust and deem the business to be unsafe and dirty.
The Law: Property owners have a legal obligation, (The Prevention of Damage by Pests Act, 1949) keep premises rodent free, or, if rodents pose a threat to health or property, to report infestations to the local authority. Also Environmental Health Officers can issue enforcement notices to business owners who don’t have adequate pest management procedures in place.

Rat Facts and Identification

The brown rat (Rattus norvegicus) is thought to have originated in south-eastern Siberia and northern China and has only been early in the 18th century. The other rat species in the UK is the black rat (Rattus rattus), but it is now very rare.

Rats have the ability to swim for 72 hours non-stop, jump around three feet into the air, four feet horizontally and can fall from a height of up to 50 feet without getting injured. They are also incredible climbers, being able to climb up brick walls.
